Obituary for Joann Marie DeLaurier
Joann Marie Stupfel DeLaurier, a resident of Oconee Springs Landing, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 19th, 2017. Joann was born in 1937 in Woodburn, Oregon, the only daughter of Opal and Alphonse Stupfel. She graduated from Mount Angel Academy and her sense of adventure took this strong young woman to San Francisco, CA where she lived in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood in the ‘60s. She always loved to tell stories of her time in this trendy, chic neighborhood working as a Medical Secretary. This is where she met and married the love of her life, a handsome young soldier named Ronald DeLaurier. Life was not always easy being a military wife but Joann loved the travel and always felt lucky to have lived in so many wonderful places. They raised their three daughters in a family filled with commitment, love, and always laughter. Joann loved people and was never happier than when her home was filled with family and friends. She always made room at the table for the soldiers away from their families at Christmas or Thanksgiving. Over the course of their 54-year marriage, they lived in California, Chicago, New York, Hawaii, and North Carolina and finally found their home in Georgia. Joann enjoyed her career as a real estate agent as her children grew up. They retired to Lake Sinclair where she met her very dear friends, the “Lakeside Mommas”. Joann had a love for good food, watching football and baseball, but most of all spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband Ronald DeLaurier; three daughters Lisa DeLaurier Hulsey and husband Larry, Chrisy DeLaurier Grant and Ronda DeLaurier Balfe and husband CJ; four Grandchildren, Stephanie Hulsey, Corleigh Sheppard and husband Ryan, Nicolas Balfe, and Madison Balfe and many nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved dearly. The visitation will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, Eatonton, GA. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will follow at 1:00PM.
