Obituary for Robert Clinton Alliston Sr
Robert Clinton Alliston, Sr.,94, of Eatonton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 24, 2021. A memorial service will be held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Friday, June 4, 2021.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service immediately following
at the chapel. The family will gather at the house ofDianne and Doug Veal at 311Grove St., after the service.
Clinton was born on April 20,1927 in Morgan County, GA. At a young age, Clinton and his
family moved to Eatonton. In 1943, at the age of 16, he joined the United States Navy and was
stationed in Pensacola, Florida. After being in the Navy for acouple of years, he returned to
Eatonton to be with his family. After the Navy, Clinton worked in the insurance business and
also with the Civil Service. In thelate 1940’s, he took over a dairy farm and became a local dairy farmer. After closing the dairy in the late 1950’s, he entered into the field of law enforcement by becoming a security officer at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Ga. for a briefperiod of time. He was then employed by the Eatonton Police Department, then worked for the Putnam Co. Sheriff’s Office, serving as a deputy sheriff under
Sheriff John Walton and then Chief Deputy when his brother, John Alliston, was Sheriff. In 1977, he began working as a security officer for Georgia Power atWallace Dam. Several years later,he transferred to Plant Harlee Branch on Lake Sinclair and continued working as a security officer until his retirement from there in 1992. After retiring, he worked part-time for the Putnam Co. Sheriff’s Office again as atransport deputy until 1995. Clinton loved working in his
garden and building birdhouses. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling. He and Pat had a placein Bryson City, N.C. for over 15 years and would stay there a good bit after they retired,
enjoying the mountains. Some of his most joyous vacations were visiting family in Tennessee
and Delaware, taking cruises and fishing on the St. John’s River inFlorida. Clinton enjoyed getting together with his family and spending time with them and spending time with his little dog,Penny. He always had a slightgrin and wore a hat of some kind and a pair of sunglasses.
Clinton was very sharp witted and quick to come back with a joke. He was preceded in death
by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Alliston; his parents; three sisters; two brothers; a grandson; two nephews and three nieces.Clinton is survived by his fourchildren, Glenda Alliston Salmon
(Frank), Bobby Alliston (Diane), Dianne Alliston Veal (Doug) andTracey Alliston Pitocchelli (Scott) and Penny. He’s also survived by four grandchildren, DawnRamsay (James), David Hall (Rae), Melvin Hubert III (Ashlee) and Rachel Spear (Shawn); six great grandchildren; two nieces, Janice Voshell and Vicki Buckworth of Delaware and two nephews, Sonny Alliston of Florida and Jay Alliston of Eatonton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice that supports Veterans,
Law Enforcement or your local Humane Society.
