Obituary for John "Buddy" Carl Mayzes
John (Buddy) Mayzes, 67 of Eatonton, passed away February 26, 2020 at home after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred D. Mayzes and his father John Mayzes. Buddy is survived by Susan, his wife of 29 years, daughter Amber Jackson, granddaughter Kaitlyn Hughes, grandson Carter Hughes, great granddaughter Sadie Brown, brother Bob Mayzes (Bonnie), sister-in-law Peggy Allen (Bud), brother-in-law Darrell Chambers (Dianne), niece Kelly Morris (Jeffrey), niece Danielle McCarthy (Justin), niece Cindy Hall (Brian), along with great nephews and great nieces. Buddy will be missed by many other family members and friends. His nickname was Buddy, which was appropriate as he always became everyone’s buddy, always kind and friendly. He seemed to draw others to him; even in his long illness and hospice, his medical team became his friends. Born in Cedartown GA and growing up in Milledgeville GA, Buddy attended GMC high school and Georgia College. He had an over 40-year career as heavy equipment mechanic and millwright in local area sawmills. Buddy loved to tinker and work in the yard, but most of all he loved being home with Susan and family. Arrangements are being handled by Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, Eatonton GA. Visitation will be at the Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. March 14, 2020 with memorial service following at 3 PM
