William (Bill) Franklin Fuller was born on September 13, 1942, in Jesup, Iowa. His parents, Omer and Mary, welcomed their 12th child into the world on that date. Currently he has five living brothers and sisters-----Don, Joanie, Mert, Jim, and Tom.
Bill met his wife, Marlys McAtee, in junior high. He would always tell people she saw him walking down the hall and said, “I will take that one.” They have been married for 54 years and had planned to have many more years together. They lived in Iowa City, IA, during Bill’s college years, Bemidji, MN, where he obtained his Masters degree, and in the Chicago suburbs where he worked in High School District 225 at Glenbrook South, Glenview, IL and Glenbrook North, Northbrook, IL.
For ten years he was a physical education instructor and head wrestling coach at Glenbrook South where he and his assistant coaches enjoyed considerable success with their teams. After Bill accepted the position as Athletic Director at Glenbrook North he remained in that position for five years. His next step was to become the Associate Principal at Glenbrook North and remained in that position until he retired in 1998.
Bill loved the choices and opportunities he was given during his career. However, he always said he enjoyed those first ten years the most. He loved working with the young men and helping them reach their goals on the wrestling mat-----he always believed they learned many lessons which would help shape their lives in a very positive direction. In addition, Bill always said, “I was born to play.” Anyone who knew him would attest to that statement. He will be missed by many.
For the past 18 years Bill and Marlys have enjoyed living in the Reynolds Lake Oconee community. Great friends, great golf, and great life!
