Obituary for William Kenneth Darley
William Kenneth Darley, 87, passed away on Wednesday February 5, 2014. He was born on July 9, 1926 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Ellis Darley and the late Evelyn Thigpen Darley. Kenneth, as his family called him, went to school in Soperton and in 1942 he entered aircraft engine school in Macon then transferred to Warner Robins Air Force Base. In 1944 he entered the army and served in the South Pacific during World War II. When he returned home, he became an Industrial Engineering Technician at Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Eatonton, was a Master Mason, member of York Rite, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and Grand Lodge of Georgia.
The visitation will be at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Sunday, February 9th from 6 to
8 PM. The service will be on Monday, February 10th at Crossroads Baptist Church at 11 AM with Rev. John McMillian Jr. officiating. Following the service burial will be at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville at 1 PM with Rev. Kara Phillippi officiating.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ludean Register Darley of McDonough, daughters Sylvia Peacock (Ken) of
Tallahassee, FL, Daria Hargis (Bruce) of McDonough, grandchildren Lisa Daws (Bob) of Tallahassee, FL, Chris Jennings of Covington, Kara Phillippi (Eric) of Rock Cave, WV, Katie Anderson of Austin, TX, Tracy Stout of Ashland City, TN, Lee Ann Bohannon (Todd) of Austin, TX, and Wesley Hargis of GA, eleven great grandchildren, a brother Vernon O. Darley (Joyce), of Morrow, sisters Margaret Brantley of Greenville, SC, Faye Thomas (Walter) of Greensboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, Ga. 30346 or the Wounded Warriors Project, 3343 Peachtree Road NE, #M20, Atlanta, Ga. 30326.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton is in charge of the arrangements.
