Obituary for Sara Flynn Calvert
A great lady, Sara Flynn Calvert (90) of Eatonton, Ga. passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at her residence. Born May 11, 1926 in Polk County, NC, Sara was the middle child of five of Alice and Grady Flynn. She graduated valedictorian of her senior class at Green Creek High School, Green Creek, NC and was a star guard on the basketball team. A graduate of Spartanburg Junior College, on Dec. 21, 1945, she married Grady Calvert, her life partner for 66 years until his death Dec. 11, 2012. Sara enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and cooking. She was an independent, hard working woman. Sara was a member of Godfrey United Methodist Church for 61 years, belonged to the Phoenix Home Demonstration Club, and greatly enjoyed working as a Pink Lady with the Putnam General Hospital Auxiliary. Survived by her 5 children: Jean Britt (Grady) Raleigh, NC, Rebecca Markwalter (Robider) Macon, Ga., Vaughn Calvert (Donna) Eatonton, Ga.,Mary Lynn Harwell (Ray) Madison, Ga. David Calvert (Rana) Eatonton, Ga; 10 grandchildren, Marc Medford (Jill), Alice Hancock (Steve), Daniel Harwell, Jason Harwell (Jana), Katie Porter (Andy), John Calvert, Laura Cropp (Andrew), Kaley Wilson (Nick), Sarah Calvert, Leslie Calvert and 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Greene (Howard) of NC, sister-in-law, Lillian Calvert of NC, brother-in-law, Dupree Calvert (Ruth) of NC, brother-in-law, Gettis Solesbee of SC. She was predeceased by her siblings Frances Prince, Henry Flynn, Jr. and Dorothy Solesbee, all of SC. Visitation: Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Vining Ivy Hill Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 PM. Service: Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Godfrey United Methodist Church at 3:00PM. Pallbearers are the following grandchildren: Marc Medford, Daniel Harwell, Jason Harwell, Laura Cropp, Sarah Calvert, Leslie Calvert. Memorial donations may be made to Putnam General Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) 101 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, Ga. 31024.
