Obituary for Robert Irwin Landau

Bob Landau of Eatonton, Georgia passed away on 10/7/2025, at the age of 92. A Memorial Service will

be held on 11/11/2025 at the Veterans Wall at 11 am. Bob is survived by his wife, Valerie, two sons and

daughters-in-law: John and Cami, and George and Lilly; one daughter: Sheila and her husband Andy

Bracken; their 11 grandchildren: Kelly, Jehan, William, Justin, Kaila, Steven, Gabriel, Anthony, Robbie,

Alex, and Sarah; and 18 great-grandchildren: Sa’eed, Logan, Siraj, Layla, Aubree, Addie, Lynlee, Skylar,

Caden, Aylamarie, Lane, Zoey, Amaryllis, Dionysus, Bayleigh, Tori, Isabella, and Bailey Mae.


Bob was born October 5, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Jacob and Martha Landau. He

a`ended Bordentown Military Institute in Bordentown, New Jersey from 1945 to 1951. He a`ended

Cornell University, graduating in June 1955, and graduated New York University School of Law in 1957.

He served for two years as a Second and then First Lieutenant in the Army Artillery at Ft. Bliss in El Paso,

Texas, and one more tour in 1961 as Captain at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

After moving to New Rochelle, New York in 1959, he became Chairman of the Board of Education. He

joined Bankers Trust Company in New York City in 1960 and eventually became head of their Corporate

Trust Division as Senior Vice President, President of Bankers Trustee Company in London and in

Luxembourg. He retired in 1991 and in 1992 joined NatonsBank as head their Corporate Trust Division

in Atlanta, Georgia, and retired again in 1996. He established Landau Associates to provide training

services to members of the corporate trust industry and to provide advisory and expert witness services

to attorneys engaged in litigation. As a result, he traveled all over the country during a twenty-year

period until he retired once again at the age of 85 in 2018.


During his career he also served as Adjunct Professor of Management at Pace University Graduate

Business School and at the American Institute of Banking in New York City, as well as the Cannon

Financial Institute of Banking from 1983 to 1994. He is the principal author of all seven editions of

“Corporate Trust Administration and Management” published from 1974 to 2015. He was the founding

member of the Financial Industry Securities Council and served as Chairman of the Corporate Trust

Committee of the American Bankers Association, Chairman of the Certification Advisory Board of the

Institute of Certified Bankers, Chairman of the CUSP Board of Trustees and as Managing Director of

Vector Management Resources.


In 1996 Bob and his wife moved to Kiawah Island, South Carolina and in 1999 moved to Eatonton,

Georgia. In 2005 he was elected Chairman and Director of the Putnam County Commission and in the

ensuing 16 years served as: Chairman and Director of the Rock Island Coves Property Owners

Association, Co-Chairman of the Putnam County Bicentennial Commttee, Founder, President, and

Treasurer of Putnam Community Resources Inc., Builder of the Veterans Wall of Honor Park, Chairman of

the 2020 County Census Committee. Since 1998 he also served as a Director and Treasurer of Putnam

Community Resources, Inc. – the parent of the Putnam Life Source Food Distribution Program.
