Obituary for Patricia Ruth Alliston
Patricia Ruth Elkins Alliston, 76 of Eatonton, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015. Pat, as she was known to everyone that knew her, was born on December 14, 1938 in Surgoinsville, TN to the late Allen Elkins and Thelma Carter Fields Stone. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Elkins, her sister Betty Jean Humphries and her beloved poodle Sandi. Pat graduated from Surgoinsville High School in 1956 and the Whitney School of Business in Kingsport, TN in 1957. She moved to Florida in September 1962 and resided around the Orlando area until moving to Eatonton in December 1973. While living in Florida she was employed with the Florida State Treasurer and Department of Insurance and she also worked at the Sentinel Star Newspaper. After moving to Eatonton, Pat was employed by Rice & Batchelor Insurance Agency from May 1974 until October 1974. On November 1, 1974, she became employed at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office until her retirement in 1996. While there, she was the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff and became a Certified Peace Officer in December 1978. Pat was a member of the National Sheriff’s Association, Peace Officer’s Association of Georgia, Peace Officer’s Annuity and Benefit Fund and Georgia Women in Law Enforcement. Pat enjoyed traveling and shopping. She enjoyed taking cruises, going to the mountains and especially enjoyed fishing. There were many fishing trips made to the St. John’s River in Florida and numerous cruises to all of the Caribbean. Pat particularly enjoyed going to the mountains, even having a second residence there, where she and her husband spent a lot of their time after retirement. As far as shopping goes, she couldn’t hardly resist a sale. Pat also enjoyed and loved animals and flowers. Her pride and joy was a poodle named Sandi, who traveled everywhere possible with Pat and her husband. She loved the spring time, enjoying seeing the flowers and trees bloom. Her daughter would always plant flowers in all of the flower beds around the house for Pat to enjoy. Pat was a kind and sweet person, small and petite, but could also stand her own ground. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her favorite part was decorating her house with all of her angels. She was a Christian lady and was saved many years ago. Visitation will be at Vining Ivy Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Robert Clinton “Clint” Alliston and daughter Tracey Alliston Bowen, brother Paul (Pat) Elkins of Rogersville, TN, neice Judy Jones, neice Jackie Walker, nephew Sammy (Linda) Walker, all of Eatonton, additional nieces and nephews in Rogersville, TN, stepdaughters Dianne (Doug) Veal, Glenda (Preston) Higgins and stepson Bobby (Diane) Alliston.
