Obituary for Margaret Jones
Margaret Elizabeth Greene Jones died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at High Shoals Health and Rehab in Bishop, Georgia, where she had lived for 6 years after suffering a paralyzing stroke. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, at the Eatonton First United Methodist Church Historical Sanctuary at 11:00. A reception to meet with the family will follow the service. Margaret was born May 8, 1922, to parents Lucille and Hal Greene of Eatonton. In 1941 she married the late Garris T. Jones of the Rockville Community, and they were married for 60 years before his death in 2002. Margaret played basketball for Eatonton High School. During World War II, while her husband served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, she worked at the Naval Air Base in Jacksonville, Florida. Margaret was a member of the Eatonton First United Methodist Church and served as church secretary for several years. She worked with her husband at the State Farm agency until their retirement in 1982. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for her family and playing bridge. She loved animals and especially loved all of her family. Besides her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by a grandson Trippe Detamore, a great grandson Martin Jones, a sister Evelyn Greene Parker and a brother Hal S. Green. She is survived by her children Kathy Warner and husband Johnny of Westminster, SC, Dr. G. Trippe Jones and wife Evelyn of Putnam County, and Anita Jones and wife Paula Seward of Memphis, TN; grandchildren Tina Ridley and husband Bill Marcie of Darien, GA, Jim Ridley of Athens, GA, Andrea McCarty and husband Greg of Woodstock, GA, Doug Jones and wife Morgan of Bogart, GA, Emily Bayley and husband Daniel of Marietta, GA, Garris Jones III of Putnam County, Dallen Detamore and partner Jennifer Gonzalez of Sherman Oaks, CA, John Detamore of Memphis, TN, and Grant Detamore of Memphis, TN; great grandchildren Dellaina and Wyatt McCarty, Emmaline, Lillian and Dylan Jones, Samuel and Noah Bayley, and Ida and Walton Jones. Because of her love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Putnam County Animal Shelter located at 107 Ridley Drive in Eatonton.
