Obituary for Lucy Mildred Brown
Lucy “Mildred” Brown passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the age of 97. Mildred was born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama and grew up in the Macon, Georgia area. She was the daughter of the late Luther Whaley and Martha Kimbrell Whaley. Having lived in Lizella, Forsyth and Waycross, Mildred and her husband moved to Eatonton in 1952, when her husband was transferred with his employment. Prior to their retirement in the early 70’s, they owned and operated three restaurants and a minit mart in the Eatonton area. After her retirement, Mildred dedicated her life to her favorite things, working in her yard, sharing her love of flowers with others and helping raise to her grandchild. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, H.S. “Red” Brown and her five siblings: Annie Bell Askew, Martha Thompson, Odessa Davis, Irine Kitchens and Luther Whaley Jr.. A Graveside service will be on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens at 2:30PM. Survivors include her children: Sylvia Dixon of Eatonton, Linda Presley of Wasilla, Alaska, Donald Brown of Alabama, Granddaughter Cayla Bankston (Ryan) of Eatonton, Great Granddaughter Taylor Bankston of Eatonton. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested for memorial contributions to be made to the Oconee Regional Humane Society or the charity of their choice.
