Obituary for Louise Moore Rocker
Mrs. Louise Moore Rocker of Greensboro, Georgia went to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, February 16, 2018 at her residence, The Glen at Lake Oconee (assisted living home), at the age of 97. Louise was born on May 11, 1920 and was raised in Culverton, Georgia. As a devout Christian, she was a member of Culverton United Methodist Church where she worshiped since childhood and would eventually meet her husband. She married Walter Crawford Rocker, a land owner and logger from Sparta, in June of 1958 and was welcomed into the family by his two sons, Walter C. Rocker, Jr. and William Glenn Rocker. Over the years, she would affectionately become known as “Granny,” a name she treasured.
Louise graduated from Sparta High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia where she majored in Education. After completing her degree, Louise taught third and fourth grades in Eatonton, LaGrange, and Sparta. She was a favorite among many of her students who would frequently express what a positive influence she had in their young lives. She will be remembered by friends and loved ones for her sweet, positive and caring attitude which reflected in her daily activities. She was a true Southern lady, and it was apparent from the love and respect she earned that she was continuously a positive role model to her family, friends, and everyone she knew.
Granny was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who was deeply committed to her family. She was well known for her kind and gentle nature, sweet dimpled smile, and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was an avid exerciser and loved walking, reading, playing bridge, studying the Bible, and spending time with her family. Over the years, she was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Sparta Round Table, and active in church leadership and her community. Once described as “the epitome of a southern belle,” she carried herself with dignity and grace. She will be deeply missed, but remembered as an inspiration and blessing to her family and to all who had the opportunity to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Rocker; her parents George Pierce and Louise Connell Moore; her siblings George Pierce Moore, Jr., Dan Connell Moore, and Ann Moore Lines; and nephew Leroy Lines.
Louise is survived by her sons, Walter Crawford Rocker, Jr. (Rebecca) and William Glenn Rocker (Ginger) both of Eatonton, GA; grandchildren Pam Lee (Bill) of Eatonton, GA, Lisa Foster (Shane) of Milledgeville, GA, Glenn Rocker, Jr. (Jody) of Evans, GA, Jack Rocker (Jennifer) of Milledgeville, GA, Jennifer Higham (Jon) of Greensboro, GA, and Walter Rocker III (Tara) of Eatonton, GA; 14 great-grandchildren; niece Sheryl Hopkins; 1 great niece and 4 great nephews.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00pm at Culverton United Methodist Church, 82 Sam Hill Road, Sparta, Georgia 31087 with Rev. John Brown officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00pm at the church.
The family requests that memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
