Obituary for Loraine Davis
Loraine Davis of Eatonton died on Wednesday, January 25th at Putnam General Hospital. Loraine was born on June 18, 1920, to Lanny Proctor and Rebecca Garrett Proctor of Cuthbert, Georgia. She moved to Eatonton after graduating from Georgia State College for Women in 1941. Mrs. Davis began her teaching career at Eatonton High School where she taught English and Spanish and coached the girls’ basketball team. She continued teaching for thirty-seven years in Putnam and Morgan Counties. After her retirement, she was a substitute teacher at Putnam Elementary and Gatewood Schools. She also taught literacy classes and was a Pink Lady at Putnam General Hospital and she served on various committees at the First Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Bridge Club. She is survived by her husband Gerald L. Davis, children Margery (Eddie), Buck (Eleanor), Lee, Luann (Jimy), and Derrick (Mary Ann). A sister Vivian Edwards, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her loving caregiver Sue Waller and many others who called her “Mema”. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Eatonton or to Putnam General Hospital. Visitation will be held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Thursday, January 26th from 5 to 7 PM. The service will be on Friday, January 27th at 2 PM at First Baptist Church of Eatonton. Interment will be at Eatonton Memorial Park. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
