Obituary for June Rebecca McLeroy
June L McLeroy, 77, of Eatonton, Georgia passed away February 6, 2021 after a battle with COVID-19. June was born in Athens, Georgia to Frank and Allie Landrum. She grew up in Greensboro, Georgia and graduated from Greensboro High School. June married Lynn McLeroy, Jr. on October 4, 1961, while he was serving in the United States Army, and the couple eventually settled in Eatonton, Georgia after his service years. June was a long-time citizen of Eatonton and many people may recall meeting her first at Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank, where she worked for over 20 years. She went on to serve the people of Putnam County in the capacity of Tax Commissioner for an additional 20 years. After her career, June continued to serve her community. June was a current member of the Lion’s Club of Eatonton, which is a service organization. During her tenure with the Lions Club, June served as president for four years and actively worked on projects the organization undertook. She played a vital role in ensuring that children in Putnam County had access to appointments for eye screenings and secured eyeglasses for students as a liaison for the Lion’s Club and the Putnam County Schools. She served that function so well that the organization appointed her as Eyeglass Chair, a position she was serving at the time of her death. June was also a dedicated member of Concord Methodist Church in the Pea Ridge Community. Many people knew of June’s hospitality and her love of cooking for others. She was famous for her pound cakes, but her family members will attest that she made a dressing for holiday events that could not be duplicated. Her parents, Frank and Allie Landrum, and mother-and father-in-law, Mildred and Lynn McLeroy, Sr., preceded June in death. June is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lynn McLeroy, Jr; Children: Sarah, Don, DeeDee, Stephanie (Clay), and Michael (Courtney); Sisters: Joan Dunagan (Joe), Nita Coleman (William), and Linda Thompson; Brother: Doug Landrum (Vonda); Several beloved grandchildren, a great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In light of the pandemic, the family is holding a private, graveside service, limited to immediate family only, Friday, February 12, 2021, at Concord Methodist Church in Eatonton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in June’s name to one of the two organizations she loved dearly: Lion’s Club of Eatonton, 977 Madison Road, Eatonton, Georgia 31024 or Concord Methodist Church, 464 Pea Ridge Road, Eatonton, Georgia 31024.
