Obituary for James Ronnie Kitchens
James Ronnie Kitchens, 76 of Eatonton, GA passed away at his home on August 10, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones and close friends. Ronnie was born September 7, 1944 in Macon, Ga. He was the son of the late Annie Belle Whaley Kitchens Askew and the late Lewis Askew. His family moved to Eatonton in 1954. He attended and graduated from Putnam County High School in the class of 1963. After graduation he attended Technical School and was later employed and retired with Bell Southern after 33 years. After retirement he owned and operated a computer business which served the local area. He attended Central Methodist Church in Putnam County. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Thompson Kitchens on August 28, 1964 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage. She was the love of his life! Ronnie had many hobbies, he was an avid reader enjoyed traveling and camping, wood working and socializing with his family and many friends. He also served his community as a former Putnam County Fire-Rescue Chief for 30 Years. He loved people and had many friends who knew him for his quick wit, the many stories of life and his endless supply of hilarious jokes. He never met a stranger and had a huge heart that will be missed by so many. His family was his world and was always there for them. His two grandsons were his pride and joy and he would gladly tell you all about them. He is survived by his loving wife Helen Thompson Kitchens one daughter Lyn Kitchens Hathaway (Mel), grandsons Austin Hathaway and Brandon Hathaway. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends who were like family. The visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, GA with the service following at 1 pm. A short graveside special celebration will follow the service at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
