Obituary for James L. Rasnick
James Leonard “Jim” Rasnick departed this life on December 19, 2011, at the Eatonton Health Center in Eatonton, Ga. where he had resided for the past three years. He was born on May 8, 1928 in Maxwell/Tazewell County, Virginia to John Robert Rasnick Sr. and Essie Clair Rose. He spent his youth growing up in McDowell County West Virginia and Tazewell County, Virginia. James Leonard Rasnick graduated from Tazewell High School, and attended Hiwassee College 2 years before going to Emory & Henry College on a scholarship and was always proud to have played football for the Wasps in the 1954 citrus Bowl. After graduation he coached football and girls and boys basketball teams at Venore, Tennessee high School. James Leonard Rasnick went to Hiwassee College 2 years before going to Emory & Henry College on a scholarship. His occupation was a carpenter and was noted for his outstanding ability in this trade, he was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local union # 225, Atlanta. Jim was a witty man who loved to laugh and to entertain with stories of his childhood; he eagerly awaited yearly family reunions so that he could be in the company of his three brothers and other family members. Jim seemed to never meet a stranger and few forgot him after meeting him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert Rasnick Sr. in 1961 and Essie Clair Rose in 1968, first wife and mother of his children, Effie Lewis Rasnick in 1999, brothers, Thomas Allen Rasnick Sr, (Jane) in1988 and John Robert Rasnick Jr. (Betty) in 2003. Jim is survived by his wife Jettie C. Bowen Rasnick of the Home, two sons and five daughters all living in Georgia, James Carroll Rasnick, Richard Russell Rasnick, Diana Lynn Parsons (Craig) Deborah Lee Jones (Ike)., Pamela Ann Rasnick (Dean Standard), Karen Michelle Guthrie (Don), and Kimberly Renee Findley (Thomas) and Brother Donald Edward Rasnick (Macie) of Thompson Valley/Tazewell, Virginia. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loyal friends. And of course, Max, his lap dog he was one of many of his dogs, he had a great love for animals. Jim Rasnick is in the care of Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, Georgia, Jim will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 2 PM
