Obituary for Harry 'Tony" Thurman Sr.
Harry P. “Tony” Thurman, Sr. moved to his heavenly home Monday, February 1, 2016. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia March 1, 1930 to Elmore C. Thurman, Sr. and Fannie Beavers Thurman, the fifth of seven children. A Methodist and native Atlantan his great grandfather settled in Fulton County in the early 1700’s. He attended school in the Fulton county school system and attended Boy’s Tech High School. He worked in the automotive industry for more than 42 years retiring from Automotive Brake and Clutch Company. He married to Ann Dearman Thurman on April 20, 1946 and was married for 62 years before her death in 2008. For many years he and Ann lived and raised their family in Tucker, Georgia. He and Ann then retired in 1998 and moved to Lake Sinclair to live their dream. He is survived by his children Harry P. Thurman, Jr. (Nancy) of Loganville, Ga., Dorothy Thurman Turpen (Bob) of Dawsonville, Ga. and Linda Thurman Ralston (Walker) of Eatonton, Ga. Grandchildren Chris Thurman (Stacy) of Park Ridge, Il, Keith Thurman (Angie) of Roswell, Ga., Walker David Ralston, Jr. of Smyrna, Ga., Garrett Ralston (Kristna) Grovetown, Ga. Great grandchildren Mia, Jake and Josh Thurman, Park Ridge, Il, James and Matthew Thurman, Roswell, Ga. and soon to be Walker Charles Ralston (W.C.) of Grovetown, Ga. Also survived by his brother Benny C. Thurman of Bremen, Ga. and sister Lalla Thurman Hurst (Leroy) of Dewey Rose, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. He was the longest living past master of Masonic Lodge # 42 of Tucker, Ga. and had proudly received his 60 year apron from the lodge. He had continued to support the Masonic lodge and Shrine Temple for many years. His going home service will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel at 1 PM with visitation on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Shrine Hospital for Children or the Masonic Home for Children.
