Obituary for Grace Bishop
Grace Welch Bishop was a native of Putnam County, GA. She was the daughter of the late James Fletcher Welch and Inez Moon Welch, and the wife to the late W. M. Bishop. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Ellis Welch, Willis Welch, Leon Welch, Priscilla Welch Farmer, Jewel Welch Alford, Vernezia Welch Jones and Alice Welch Pittman. Grace attended schools in the County and in Eatonton. Upon graduation and business school, at the age of 17, she moved to Hapeville, GA and worked at a lumber company. There she met and married her husband, W.M. Bishop. The two of them moved back to Putnam County to work and raise a family. Grace worked at several businesses, but her longest career was with The Farmers and Merchants Bank for forty-seven years. Grace accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at a young age, she was His faithful servant and attended church regularly where ever she lived. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eatonton as a young adult. There she was a devoted member for over sixty years, serving in various positions and committees. Grace, “Big Mamma” to her family, leaves behind to cherish her memories; son, Stanley Bishop and daughter, Beverly Bishop (Jeff Spotts); five grandchildren, Tyler Harrington(Callan Burzynski), Rachel Harrington, Allison Bishop (Haydn Adams), Martin Bishop and Annah Kennedy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Grace Bishop will be honored with a celebration of life on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Eatonton, Historic Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Grace’s memory to The First United Methodist Church of Eatonton.
