Obituary for Glenn Carlos Lindsey

Glenn Carlos Lindsey was born on December 8, 1932, the youngest son of Lola Belle Hartley Lindsey and Carlos L. Lindsey. Glenn was born in Tenille, Georgia, where his father was a farmer and furniture maker. The family moved to Barnesville, Georgia, when Glenn was eleven. Glenn attended Gordon Junior College excelling in accounting. He attended the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia where he met Martha Jenkins Tucker. Glenn graduated from the University of Georgia on June 10, 1957, where the commencement address was given by John F. Kennedy an up and coming politician.

Glenn married the love of his life, Martha Tucker, on August 6, 1961. Martha and Glenn made their home in Davidson, North Carolina, where Glenn was a professor of Economics at Davidson College from 1958 to 1998. Glenn's clear teaching of accounting ensured that his students were well-prepared for using accounting; his wry sense of humor kept them paying attention when their young minds might wander. They loved entertaining the faculty and students at the home they built there. After Professor Lindsey’s retirement, they returned to Martha’s childhood home in Eatonton to make their home on Madison Avenue.

On August 6, 2021, the Lindsey’s celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

Martha and Glenn shared a love of cats, and their home became a sanctuary for abandoned cats. The most recent additions to their family are Ben and Belle, two Siamese cats; Robin Hood, an outdoor cat; and Little One, Glenn’s spoiled calico. The cats all live a privileged life.

Glenn and Martha were both members of the Eatonton Presbyterian Church and Glenn served as an elder.

Glenn was predeceased by his beloved wife, Martha, his parents, brother Raymond Lindsey, sisters Jeanette Lindsey Elliott, and Vonnie Lindsey Cain.  He is survived by Susie G' Segnor (Ford), Joe Deloach (Melody), and Daisy Evans.

Many thanks to the friends who have graciously aided them during their illnesses Dr. Andy Ray, Brenda Ray, Janice Batchelor, Richard Batchelor, Amelia Logan, Ken Harris, Sallie Floyd, Carole Thomas, Christyne Thomas Holmes, Hamilton Williams, Marjorie Hanson, Saralyn Youngblood, and Reverend Jacob Douylliez, former pastor of the Eatonton Presbyterian Church.

Special thanks go to the many caregivers at Presbyterian Village Athens for their kindness and love in caring for Glenn, including Tammi, Craig, Vivien, Ginger, Melissa, Cathy, Andre, and Sheena. Glenn so appreciated Roberta, Lavonne, Janie, and Alene, his steadfast friends at Presbyterian Village.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at the Eatonton Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Eatonton Presbyterian Church, Davidson College, or a local animal shelter.
