Obituary for Earl Ray Braswell
Earl Ray Braswell was born on February 1, 1927 in Cullman, Alabama to the Rev. Andrew Earl and Johnnie Blackwelder Braswell. He was the only son of six children. Ray served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy, as part of the SeaBees - Construction Battalion and was discharged in 1946. He also served 7 years in the Alabama National Guard in the 513th Field Artillery Battalion. Ray retired from the U.S. Postal Service, serving the City of Forest Park. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Artell Guthrie Braswell, daughters Sheila Kay Santarone (Ted) of Eatonton and Cindy Rhea Baxter (Leon) of Stockbridge. Grandchildren – Zachery Cale Ellington (Amanda), Melanie Rhea Brown, Katie Marie Glaude (Josh), Collin Thomas Baxter (Sarah); and Jeffery Alan Baxter (Heidi). Great Grandchildren – Olivia Rhea Glaude, Jackson Theodore Glaude, Layla Rhea Baxter, Aiden Jeffery Baxter, Ty Leon Baxter, and Mark Levi Baxter; Sisters Mary Ellen Guthrie (John) and Jane Cobb (Elbert) of Cullman, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, as well as sisters Edith Webb, Emily Tucker, and Willie Dale Braswell. Ray loved attending Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, and was an active member of the Christian Crusaders Sunday School class, until moving to Christian City in Union City, and then to Eatonton, Georgia.
