Dorothy Adella Story Morris of Eatonton died peacefully on September 21 after a short illness. Born March 5, 1929, to architect Joseph Benjamin Story and Sarah Mae Rickerson, she grew up in Augusta. It was there that she met her husband and partner in life, Alvin Ray Morris. Together, they settled in Tucker, reared four children, and ran a successful business. They retired to Lake Oconee and built their final home together, a gathering place for their community. As in all things they shared in life, Alvin gave Dorothy full credit for their accomplishments. A talented artist, seamstress, gardener, and pastor’s wife, Dorothy was continuously creating. Her family, faith, church, and friends gave her great joy. She, in turn, gave endless support and encouragement. Her laugh and her smile were infectious.
She is preceded in death by Alvin and her eldest son, Hugh. She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Wright and Darlene Green-Brice, and her son Jeffrey (Suzanne), ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grace Baptist Church in Eatonton or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
