Obituary for Donna Dearman Gregory
Mrs. Donna Dearman Gregory passed away Friday, February 19, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Eatonton First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 on Monday at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel. She was born in Eatonton, Georgia on May 1, 1945 to parents Gladyce Allison Dearman and Otis Decatur Dearman, Sr. She grew up in Eatonton and led an active and involved life. She graduated from Putnam County High School in 1963. That same year, 1963, she was crowned the Putnam County Dairy Queen. She married her husband Jerry Gregory, on June 27, 1964 and spent the next several years creating and raising their family. She returned to college, graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA in 1984, and began teaching elementary school. She taught second grade most of her career, and retired in May 2010.During this period of her life, she was the pianist for FUMC where she was active for many years. She also taught piano lessons for many years. Music was a huge part of her life. She and her sister music lovers had tickets to the Atlanta Opera for almost 30 years. And on top of all this, she loved to travel….. both with her friends and her husband and family. She is often described as being “one of the sweetest, most caring people ever known”, and “Eatonton has lost a beautiful lady, but she has left behind a wonderful legacy for her family and friends.” She was a very devoted grandmother as she attended every activity and sporting event she could. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Kaye Gregory Cheshire. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Gregory; her daughter Jill Brackett; son Jay (Cindy) Gregory; and son-in-law Mark (Laura) Cheshire; brother O.D. (Bettye) Dearman. She had 10 grandchildren: Gregory (Kayla) Brackett, Zachary Brackett, Hope Cheshire, Chandler Gregory, Tanner Brackett, Ross Cheshire, Naomi Gregory, Caleb Cheshire, Josie Gregory, J.T. Gregory IV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eatonton FUMC, Gatewood School or Putnam General Hospital.
