Obituary for Christine Smith
Christine Garrett Smith, 88, longtime resident and native of Georgia, died August 15, in Memphis. She was born August 2, 1922, in Forsyth, GA. After her husband retired from the Navy in 1958 they moved to Elkton, VA where they owned and operated a dry cleaning and Snap-on Tool for over 20 years. She and her husband retired to Georgia in 1982 where they lived for 25 years before moving to Memphis in 2006. Mrs. Smith leaves a son Frederick and daughter-in-law Linda of Cordova; two grandchildren, G. Shayne of Germantown and Jeremy of Knoxville and two great-granddaughters, Vivian and Elizabeth; one brother, Phillip Scott Garrett of Elkton, VA and several nieces. Christine Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James H. Smith. The family will receive friends at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Thursday from 3 to 4 PM, a memorial service will follow.
