Obituary for Charles Bollinger
Charles Bollinger 87 of Eatonton passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015. He was born on June 25, 1927 in Macon, Georgia to the late John William Bollinger Sr. and Mary Worsham Bollinger. Charles was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Eatonton. He attended Pearl Stephens Elementary School, Lanier High School, and Mercer University in Macon. Charles worked as an accountant for Youmans Chevrolet for many years and retired in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 47 years Peggy H. Bollinger and a brother John William Bollinger Jr. Charles was a Deacon with a church in Macon, Sunday school teacher and Training Union Teacher, and was involved with the Bus Ministry. He coached pitchers in the little league while he was in Macon and they always went to the all-star games. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII and served in Japan during the occupation. He was an avid basketball and baseball player in high school, he couldn’t play football because his mother feared he would get hurt and they couldn’t afford the doctor bills. He received college scholarship offers to play baseball and basketball and was signed on to play for a professional team, the Brooklyn Dodgers but was drafted and off to Japan he went. Charles met his loving wife Kathryn W. Bollinger in 1997, they married on May 23, 1998 at the First Baptist Church of Eatonton with their children and grandchildren making up the wedding party. He and Kathryn enjoyed square dancing, ball room dancing and the fellowship at Crossroads Baptist Church. They enjoyed extensive travel across the continental United States and Canada and especially enjoyed their Alaskan Cruise. He started with his wife Kathryn the Petals of Love Ministry at Crossroads Baptist Church delivering flowers to the sick and homebound, they also served on the Cookie Ministry delivering cookies to the church visitors and was also a member of the Joy Sunday School class. The visitation will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel at 10 AM, the service will follow at 11 AM and burial will be at Eatonton Memorial Park. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 17 years Kathryn Bollinger, daughters Lynne Bollinger, Susan B. Clayton (Joe), Robin K. Walden(Wayde Powell Jr.), Sister Louise B. Smith, grandson Bryan Clayton (Rachel), granddaughters Christina C. Jones (Andy), Kayden N. Powell, great grandchildren Isla Clayton, Genevieve Clayton, Clementine Clayton, Avaleigh Jones, Hudson Clayton, sister in law Milly H. Lewis, brother in law Tommie R. Lewis, nieces Janice Culpepper, Cathy Lee, Roslyn Wright, Gina Jackson, Cindy Duffey, nephews Charles Smith, Dr. John Bollinger III, Chick Lewis, Andy Lewis, Tim Lewis and several great nieces and great nephews. The family has requested donations to Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
