Obituary for Betty Key
Jean Key 63, of Eatonton passed away on May 20th, 2010 at a local hospital. Betty was born in Greensboro, Ga. the daughter of the late James and the late Juanita (Powell) Barnett of Oconee County. She graduated from Greene County High School in 1965 and graduated from Dudley High School of Nursing in 1970. Betty married Cleveland Key of Eatonton on March 7, 1969 at the Green Point Nursing Home Chapel so all her “babies” could come to the ceremony. Betty and Cleveland had one son Cleveland Askew Key, who was better known as ‘Happy’. Betty’s young life was spent working on her family’s farm and dairy, she also worked at the cotton mill, sock mill, short order cook, nurses assistant at Green Point & Putnam General Hospital, home sitting for the elderly and worked for Putnam General Hospital for 40 years in the case management dept. She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church, American Red Cross, Board Member of Putnam Christian Outreach, Advisory Board Member at PGH Nursing School, Auxiliary member of her church, Team Member of March of Dimes, Cancer Survivor Walk-a-thon, Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Board Member of ABC and Oconee Valley Home Health Services. Betty has always had her door open to anyone needing a helping hand, if she didn’t have what that person needed she was on the phone to find someone to provide the services needed. She enjoyed her flowers, fishing was her favorite sport and she enjoyed to cook and do crafts. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James & Juanita Barnett, Grandparents, Joseph & Alice Barnett, Arnie & Thelma Powell all of Oconee County, Multiple Aunts & Uncles, Two brothers: James Elder Barnett ‘Elmo’ & Joseph Keith ‘Sport’ Barnett, both of Greensboro, Ga., one nephew: Ronnie Keith Barnett, Seals & Berta Cawthorn. She has left her love and precious memories to her husband of 40+ years Cleveland Roby Key, their son Cleveland Askew “Happy” Key, daughter-in-law Jeanna Hall Key, grandson Joseph Roby Key. Sisters & Brother-in-laws; Boyd & Patricia McNair of Greensboro, Melvin & Patsy Forehand of Raytown, Linda Ray Rhodes of Washington, Ga., Margaret Loveless of Union Point, Ga., Lisa Wooten & Tommy Barnett of Eatonton, Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, her hospital family and EMS family. Visitation Friday, May 21st at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 6 to 8 PM, Service on Saturday, May 22 also at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel at 11 AM, burial will be at Crestlawn Memroial Gardens following the service. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
