Obituary for Amelia Wilson
Amelia Adams Wilson, 87, of Eatonton passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. She was born in
Wilcox County, Georgia on August 30, 1932 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ferrell Adams.
Within a year, the family moved to Eatonton and it was on the front porch of the Taliaferro
House at the First Methodist Church where she took her first steps. She was preceded in death
by her husband of 64 years, Harvey Lamar Wilson, Sr. and two sons, Arthur Frederick Wilson
and Harvey Lamar Wilson, Jr.
She attended the Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Georgia and finished her education at the
University of Georgia where she received a degree in Music Education. She was an active
member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Eatonton. She also was a member of the
National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, PEO
(Philanthropic Educational Organization) and the international music fraternity, Sigma Alpha
Iota. She served on many boards including the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Macon
Symphony Orchestra, The Madison Morgan Cultural Center and The Peoples Bank for 50+ years
and where she served as chairman for many of those.
She was a quintessential steel magnolia who enjoyed art, music, traveling, entertaining and her
community. She always made time for God, her church, family and friends and never said no to
dance with her husband to their favorite song “Old Bones”. As the song says, they loved life
and they’d do it again.
She is survived by her daughter, Amelia Wilson (Chuck) Haley, grandchildren; Charles Wilson
(Blayre) Haley, Amelia Ferrell Haley (Jay) Elliott, Catherine MacKay Haley, Ellen Amelia Wilson
(Raylee) Cavasier, and Harvey Ashford Phillip Wilson.
Due to today’s environment there will be a private service and burial at Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family request no flowers but any donations or memorials may be sent to the First Baptist
Church of Eatonton.
