Obituary for Al Knowles
Alvin “Al” Reuben Knowles, age 76 of Decatur, Georgia, passed away with family peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2016 1:04 PM. Al was born January 27, 1940 in Eatonton, Georgia (Putnam County) son of the late Woodrow Wilson and the late Annie Kate “Tiny” Wagner Knowles. Al graduated from Putnam County High School (Eatonton, Georgia) in 1958 where he was recruited by the F.B.I. (Washington D.C.) for work initially in its Identification Division. Al attended and graduated from George Washington University (Washington D.C.) class of 1963 and served in the U.S. National Guard before being transferred to the F.B.I.’s Atlanta Office where he continued service in the National Guard. Al attended and graduated John Marshall University (Atlanta, Georgia) in 1968 with a Law Degree. Al retired from the F.B.I. in 1996 following 37 years of service. Al resided in Decatur (Pea Ridge), Georgia for 54 years where he raised his family. Al enjoyed spending his time with his wife, family and friends. He would never pass on an opportunity to support activities of his children and grandchildren (ex. sport, academic, profession, etc.) Al is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gisela Knowles; daughter Sonja and Dave (husband) Titus of Odum, Georgia; son Stacey “Glenn” and Jill Knowles (wife) of Suwanee, Georgia; daughter Ginger Knowles Cleveland and Tom Bayko of Houston, Texas; son Colonel Brian and Heather (wife) Neal of Tavernier, Florida; sister Debbie and Phil Newsome (husband); niece Crystal Forman Armstrong and great nephew Ashton Armstrong. Al is survived by ten (10) grandchildren; Kelsey Titus of Homestead, Florida; Kimberly Titus of Odum, Georgia; Travis Neal of Tavernier, Florida; Tucker Neal of Tavernier, Florida; Cameron and Will Cleveland of Sealy, Texas; Trey and Alex Parker of Suwanee, Georgia; and Madison and Carson Knowles of Suwanee, Georgia. Al is preceded in death by; father Woodrow Knowles; mother Annie Kate “Tiny” Knowles; brother Dennis “Dee Dee" Knowles; nephew Randy Knowles; and nephew Stevie Knowles. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday December 3, 2016 from 5-7 pm at the Vining Ivy Hill Chapel (Eatonton, Georgia). The funeral service will be held Sunday December 4, 2016 1 PM at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel (Eatonton, Ga) with son Col. Brian Donald Neal officiating both the funeral service and the burial service at Eatonton Memorial Park off Godfrey highway.
